A Path to History: The Story of Stevens Creek
Webinar on the history of Mountain View's Rengstorff House, Shoreline Park, and the North Bayshore District! Featuring historic slideshow presentations given by representatives from The Friends of "R" House and the City of Mountain View's Shoreline Division who tell the story of how Mountain View's bayfront has evolved over time, and how the c. 1867 Rengstorff House survived to become Mountain View's oldest historic structure. Presentations are followed by an interactive Q&A with some of the leaders involved in restoring the Rengstorff House 30 years ago, as well as a former resident who grew up in the house during the 1960s.

Mountain View might have been a small farming community when women were fighting to win the right to vote over a century ago, but that doesn’t mean this community wasn't active! As part of nation-wide celebrations honoring the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the MVHA's Fall 2020 webinar will focus on the stories of how women in the Mountain View area mobilized to help secure the right to vote over a century ago. Our free online event will include: -A special video presentation by MVHA member Pamela Baird that brings to life the stories of the people and places that shaped the women's suffrage movement in the Mountain View area. -A slideshow talk with Dr. Amy Ellison from the Los Altos History Museum, who will share highlights from the museum's new special exhibit, Rise Up! The Fight for Women's Suffrage

Mountain View’s Castro Street has undergone many transformations over the course of its 150+ year history. From the dusty dirt roadway and wooden plank sidewalks of the 1860s, to four busy lanes of traffic, narrow sidewalks, and neon signs of the 1940s, to the Parisian-inspired revamp in 1990 that transformed Castro Street into the pedestrian-friendly destination it is today. Today, Castro Street is undergoing another dramatic, albeit temporary, transformation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Physically-distanced outdoor dining has replaced vehicle traffic, offering a glimpse of what a fully-pedestrianized Castro Street might look like in the future. Join us as Mtn. View Historical Association President Nick Perry and Gehl designer John Bela share the story of Castro Street’s past, present, and future!
