Discover the past, present and possible future of Mountain View’s main street!

Join the Mountain View Historical Association for our first virtual event!

Mountain View’s Castro Street has undergone many transformations over the course of its 150+ year history. From the dusty dirt roadway and wooden plank sidewalks of the 1860s, to four busy lanes of traffic, narrow sidewalks, and neon signs of the 1940s, to the Parisian-inspired revamp in 1990 that transformed Castro Street into the pedestrian-friendly destination it is today.

Today, Castro Street is undergoing another dramatic, albeit temporary, transformation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Physically-distanced outdoor dining has replaced vehicle traffic, offering a glimpse of what a fully-pedestrianized Castro Street might look like in the future. Join us as Mtn. View Historical Association President Nick Perry and Gehl designer John Bela share the story of Castro Street’s past, present, and future!
